Spring Texas Youths Earns All American Honors At Junior Olympics Championship

A look into the future of Spring-Klein Track and Field

Lavoxkeia-smlSpring, TX, August 20, 2009. – The Texas Stallions Youth Track Club ended its Track and Field season on a high note.  While no medals were earned this year at the Amateur Athletic Union’s (AAU) Junior Olympics, one athlete was named a National Elite Youth All American and three athletes were named to National Elite Youth Honor Roll. “These accomplishments are impressive in that the entire Stallion’s Junior Olympic team and National Youth Elite Ranking System selections are first time track and field competitors” said Assistant Coach Lavoxkeia Carnes, “these athletes are among the best of the best and are ranked against all track and field athletes in their age group in the AAU, USA Track & Field (USATF), and CYO”.

Moines IA where 8,199 athletes representing 42 states and Washington D.C. were in attendance.  The Stallions Junior Olympic team consisted of Brittany Collins, Christopher Collins, Freddie Moore, Harrison Moore, LaKayla LaFrance, Lamont Grow, and Lavoxkeia Carnes.

All American Lavoxkeia Carnes, lead the team by finishing 10th in the Primary Girls 400m Dash with a personal best of 1:11.68. Lavoxkeia was also named on the Honor Roll in the Long Jump for her regional record-breaking jump of 11’4.25”. Harrison Moore a primary boy finished 13th in Long Jump at the Junior Olympics, was named on the Honor Roll for his Gold Medal jump of 11’11.75” at the Regional Championships in July.  Midget girl, Zhanna Brooks, qualified for the Junior Olympics, but did not compete was also named on the Honor Roll in the 1500m Race Walk for her debuting race at district with a time of 10:33.26.

9 Spring Athletes Advance to AAU Junior Olympics

Spring, TX, July 14, 2009. – Junior Olympic spots were up for grabs as the top athletes from the Gulf Coast Region competed July 10 and 11 in the Area 13 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics (JO) National Qualifier at Klein Memorial Stadium. Athletes age 5 – 18 competed in various track and field events, with the top six in each event and age group earning awards and the top four advancing to the Junior Olympics.

Fourteen athletes represented the Texas Stallions this weekend, with eight qualifying for the Junior Olympics. Spring residents Jonathan Carnes, Ahmad Cummings, Harrison Moore, Christopher Ward, Kaylan Harris, Freddie Moore, Alexander Brooks, Christopher Collins, Jarius Chevalier, Lamont Grow, Lavoxkeia Carnes, LaMika LaFrance, Brittany Collins, and LaKayla LaFrance represented the Stallions well in the National Qualifier.

Lavoxkeia Carnes earned one gold and two silver medals in all of her events. She is the regional champion in the primary girls 400m dash and silver medalist in the Long Jump and 100m Dash. Her jump of 11’4.25” broke the regional record with a margin of only .25” separating her from the gold medal. Showing dominance in the Primary Boy division is Harrison Moore. Harrison took the gold medal and is the regional champion in two of his three events, the Long Jump and 100m Dash.

Also advancing to the Junior Olympics are midget boy, Freddie Moore in both of his events placing 4th in the discus throw and the shot put; Sub-youth girl Brittany Collins is the silver medalist in the 800m run; Youth girl LaKayla LaFrance with a silver and bronze medalist in the 200m Hurdles and 100m Hurdles, respectively; Youth boy Alexander Brooks with a 4th place finish in the 800m run; and Intermediate boys Christopher Collins is the bronze medalist in the 2000m Steeplechase and Lamont Grow is the bronze medalist in the long jump.

Finishing in the top six is LaMika LaFrance with a 5th place finish in the midget girls 400m Dash, in what proved to be one of the closest races of the championship, with only a fraction of a second separating each of the top six places in the midget girls 400m. Also, Zhanna Brooks who previously advanced in June’s multi-event qualifier.

“I am so proud of our athlete’s” said Head Coach Paul Durisseau, “their hard work and dedication has truly paid off”.

The Texas Stallions Junior Olympians will be traveling to Des Moines, IA to compete in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics, July 27 – August 8, 2009.

Stallions Continue to Shine as They Prepare For Regional Meet

In the last regular track meet of the season, the Texas Stallions continue to shine 

Spring, TX, July 5, 2009.Texas Stallions Youth Track Club continued to shine at the Visions Track Club meet Saturday, June 27 by accruing 12 top-six finishes, demonstrating readiness for this weekend’s regional meet. The Stallions top–six results include: 

Girls

 100m: Primary – 1st – Lavoxkeia Carnes; Midget – 5th – LaMika LaFrance

 800m: Midget – 4th – LaMika LaFrance

 100m Hurdles: Youth – 1st – LaKayla LaFrance

 400m: Primary – 1st – Lavoxkeia Carnes

 1500m Race Walk: Midget – 2nd – Zhanna Brooks

 1500m: Midget – 5th – Zhanna Brooks

 Long Jump: Youth – 1st – LaKayla Lafrance

 The Visions Track Meet was the final competition to be held going into the Amateur Athletic Union Regional Junior Olympics Qualifier to be held Friday July 10 & 11.  With one team member already through, Coach Durisseau is confident the rest of the Stallions will perform well and join Zhanna at the Junior Olympics in August.

to Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics 

Spring, TX, June 26, 2009. – In only her second competition ever in the 1500 Race Walk, Spring resident Zhanna Brooks placed 3rd in the Area 13 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Regional Qualifier.

 

“Zhanna’s accomplishment is remarkable in that it is only her second time competing in the event and she is only the second member in the Texas Stallions Youth Track Club history to advance to the JO’s in the race walk” said Head Coach Paul Durisseau.

 

The only member of the Stallions Track Club to compete in the first half the regional meet, Zhanna has set an exciting start for the Team.

 

The balance of the Stallions will compete in the Regional Qualifier that will be continued on July 10 & 11th.

Join us for Texas Stallions Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A.  This is an excellent and easy way to earn money for our club.  We are raising money to send our athletes to the Junior Olympics in Des Moines, IA. All you have to do to help is come eat at Chick-fil-A on Thursday, June 25, 2009.

This is how it works:  Come and eat with us on June 25th, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Please tell the cashier that you are there in support of Texas Stallions Youth Track Club Spirit Night and they will print out a record of your order.  Chick-fil-A will then add up the total of all the slips and return a portion of the total money spent during those hours to our club.  The more that is spent, the more our club earns, so bring your family, friends and whoever else is hungry.  What a deliciously easy way to earn money for our club!    We hope to see you there!

Well Done Stallions on Advancing to JO Regional Qualifier

The Texas Stallions Youth Track Club score nineteen top six places to advance to Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics (JO) Regional Qualifier!

Spring, TX, June 16, 2009. – Despite the heat wave hovering over the Houston Metropolitan Area this weekend during the AAU JO District Qualifier, the Texas Stallions performed well bringing home 1 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze, 2 fourth, 3 fifth, and 4 sixth place finishes.

Leading the Stallions with one best in district showing in the Primary Girls 400 is Lavoxkeia Carnes with a time of 1:18.39, 3 seconds behind her personal best recorded earlier this season. Lavoxkeia also claimed silver in the Primary Girls long jump with a jump of 9’8.5” and 5th in the Primary Girls 100 with a time of 16.54. Harrison Moore won the bronze in the Primary Boys 100m dash with a time of 16.5 and the bronze in the Primary Boys Long Jump with a jump of 11’6.5”. Fellow PeeWee Primaries Ahmad Cummings  and Jonathan Carnes showed well also qualifiying for the Regional Championships in their respective events.  

Representing the Bantam Boys, Christopher Ward placed 6th in the 1500 with a time of 6:42.38, 11th in the 800 with a time of 3:11.11 in the 800, and 12th in the 400 with at time of 1:17.41.

Our Midget Boys and Girls made a great showing as well.  On her first attempt Zhanna Brooks took home the silver in the Midget Girls1500 Racewalk, in an exciting battle to the finish with a time of 10:33.26. While Lamika Lafrance claimed the silver in the 400m dash with a new personal record of 1:05.41. Lamika also placed 6th in the 200m and qualified in the Midget Girls 100m. For the Midget Boys Freddie Moore placed 3rd in the Shot Put and 5th in the Discus with throws of and 23’3.5” and 59’7” respectively. Kaylan Harris placed 5th in the 800m with at time of 2:43.87 and also advanced to the regional’s in the 400m and Long Jump.

Representing the Sub-Youth Girls is Brittany Collins. Brittany placed 4th in the 800m with a personal record of 2:39.56. She also completed the 100m with a time of 15.56 and the 400m with a time of 1:15.51.

Youth Girl LaKayla Lafrance continued her high level of performance in hurdle running events by taking 4th in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 18.22 and 2nd in the 200m Hurdles with a time of 32.83. Lakayla also competed in the 400m with a time of 1:08.38. Alexander Brooks a Youth Boy also had a good showing placing 6th in the 800 and 1500 with times of 2:55.57 and 5:45.50 respectively. Alex also placed 7th in the Discus with a throw of 49’3.5”.

Leading the Intermediate Boys, Lamont Grow placed 3rd in the Long Jump with a jump of 18’1.75”. He also competed in the 100m and 200m. Christopher Collins and Jarius Chevalier competed well in the 200, 400, and 800 going through to the upcoming regional championships.

A youth Track and Field Club based in Spring Texas, the Texas Stallions are dedicated to the development of youth track and field athletes in the North Houston area. Local Track Team Ready for Area 13 AAU Junior Olympics District Qualifier

Ten boys and five girls took part in events that were held by age groups: Primary (5-8), Sub-Bantam (9), Bantam (10), Sub-Midget (11), Midget (12), Sub-Youth (13), Youth (14), Intermediate (15-16), and Young Men/Women (17-18). Awards were given for the top-six finishers in each age group. Competing against over 10 other teams, the stallions took home fourteen top-six finishes. The top-six finishers were:

The Stallions can be seen next Saturday, June 12 -13, 2009 at the Area 13 AAU JO District Qualifier, held by the Sonics Youth Track Club at Klein Memorial Stadium, 16715 Stuebner Airline, Klein, TX 77379 at 8:00 am each day. Qualifying times in the district meet will allow athletes to advance to the Area 13 Regional Championships in July where they will have the opportunity to qualify for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics to be held in Des Moines IA in early August. Kreinhop Student Snags 3 Medals at Primary Championship

Spring, TX, May 31, 2009. – Eight year old Spring resident Lavoxkeia Carnes took home Gold, Silver, and Bronze  Medals on Saturday in each of her three events, Long Jump, 400m, and 100m respectively.  She and four other Texas Stallions primary runners participated in the M.C. Express Track Club Primary Championship Meet on Saturday, May 30, 2009.  As the season nears closer to the district, and regional championships Lavoxkeia and her teammates are preparing for the opportunity to qualify for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics to be held in Des Moines IA in early August.

In their sixth meet of the season, the Stallions primary team competed in the AAU sanctioned event held at Oak Ridge High School with eleven track and field events for youth 3 – 8 years old. Three boys and one girls from the Stallions team took part in events that were held by age groups: Primary (7-8), Pee Wee (5-6), and Tiny Mites (4 and under). Awards were given for the top-six finishers in each age group and all participants in the event. In all the Stallions took home four top-six finishes.

The top-six finishers in their age group and event were:

  • Harrison Moore –Long Jump, 6th – 8’4”
  • Lavoxkeia Carnes – Long Jump, 1st – 9’5½”; 400m Run, 2nd – 1:15.4, and 100m Dash, 3rd – 16.08

The Stallions Primary team made a strong showing in their other events, making a strong presence at their 1st Primary Championship. Ahmad Cummings and Jonathan Carnes competed well in the Pee Wee 100m, Baseball throw, and 200 m dash. Harrison Moore had a strong showing in his other events – 100m and 400m.

A youth Track and Field Club, the Texas Stallions are based in Spring Texas. Practices are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at Klein Oak High School and Klein Collins High School. Spring, TX, May 25, 2009. – Fourteen year old Spring resident LaKayla LaFrance took home the Gold Medal on Saturday in the 200 Meter Hurdles with a time of 31.05.  She and twelve other Texas Stallions participated in the High Velocity Team Invitational Meet on Saturday.  With the season in full swing LaKayla and her teammates are preparing for the upcoming district championships where they will have the opportunity to qualify for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics to be held in Des Moines IA in early August.

 

In their fifth meet of the season, the Stallions competed in a AAU sanctioned event held by the High Velocity at Traylor Stadium with a variety of track and field events for youth 5 – 18 years old. Eight boys and six girls took part in events that were held by age groups: Primary (5-8), Bantam (9-10), 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, and 17-18. Awards were given for the top-six finishers in each age group. In all the stallions took home nine top-six finishes.

The top-six finishers in their age group and event were:

  • Christopher Collins – 800m Run, 2nd – 2:19.73 and 1500m, 3rd – Run 5:37
  • Christopher Ward –1500m Run, 4th – 6:11
  • Freddie Moore – Shot Put, 5th – 23’5”
  • Kaylan Harris – 400m Run, 5th – 1:06.01
  • LaKayla LaFrance – 200m Hurdles, 1st – 31.05
  • LaMika LaFrance – 400m Run, 6th – 1:07.05 and 200m Dash, 4th
  • Lavoxkeia Carnes – 400m Run, 4th – 1:18.42

CL Athletics Meet Results

Spring, TX, May 16, 2009. – The Texas Stallions increased ribbon count to five this week at the USA Track & Field, Inc. (USATF) sanctioned event held by the CL Athletics at Stafford High School this week. Nineteen Spring athletes competed in the eighteen event meet.  

The top-six finishers in their age group and event were:

  • Christopher Ward – 1500m – 4th – 5:46
  • Harrison Moore – 800m – 4th – 3:03; Long Jump - 4th – 10′5″
  • LaKayla LaFrance – 100m Hurdles – 2nd – 17.90
  • Lavoxkeia Carnes – 100m – 2nd – 16.35; 800m – 3rd – 3:09
